First Solar, as part of its commitment to improving the global
environment, established a module Collection and Recycling
Program to promote the collection and recycling of modules and
to ensure that the potential disposal of modules as municipal
waste is minimized. For each module sold, First Solar
sets aside sufficient funds to meet the estimated costs of
collecting and recycling modules at the end of their useful
life. Anyone possessing a module can request collection
and recycling at any time at no cost in accordance with this
Program by contacting First Solar via its website or by
telephone. The Collection and Recycling Program provides
that:
- Each original end-user must register the location of each
module installation site in order to encourage a high
collection rate of modules at the end of their useful lives
and to allow First Solar to design its recycling program in a
manner that minimizes costs and the negative environmental
impacts of transportation.
- First Solar will, at any time at the request of the
end-user, remove and transport the modules to a
processing center where substantially all components of the
modules, including the glass and the encapsulated
semiconductor materials and metals, will be treated and
processed for recycling into new modules or other
products.
- First Solar will pay all packaging, transportation and
recycling costs; the end-user's only responsibility is
to disassemble and package the modules based on instructions
provided by First Solar.
