First Solar's module recycling program is designed to assure
that substantially all components of the modules, including the
glass and the encapsulated semiconductor materials and metals,
are treated and processed for recycling into new modules or
other products. The recycling process consists of the following
primary steps:
- Initial processing to separate and clean the glass, which
is provided to glass manufacturers for recycling;
- Separation of metal layers from the remaining module
components; and
- Additional processing to purify the metals sufficiently
for recycling into commercial products

Through this process, over 90% of the module (by weight) is
processed for recycling and thereby prevented from entering the waste
stream.
