Project Overview
Ontario's Sarnia Solar Farm is more than the 80MW solar-electricity producing facility it appears. True, it produces enough power to serve the needs of about 10,000 local homes annually. But a portion of the site also is home to a 100-acre tall grass prairie restoration project. The grasses, planted among the solar farm of 1.3 million First Solar PV modules, will create new habitats while increasing soil stability and water quality.
Project Benefits
The Sarnia Solar Farm produces enough electricity to power the needs of about 10,000 local homes per year while displacing approximately 22,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The Sarnia Solar Farm demonstrates leadership for Ontario in the utility-scale solar market, while practicing sound land stewardship. The tall grass prairie restoration project for the solar farm covers more than 100 acres - the largest such restoration project in Canada - creating new habitats while increasing soil stability and water quality.
