Located on 2,100 acres of farmland in the Antelope Valley in Los Angeles County, AV Solar Ranch One is a 230 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) generating facility developed by NextLight Renewable Power, LLC.
On April 28, 2010, NextLight and First Solar announced a definitive agreement for First Solar to acquire NextLight. The acquisition was completed on July 12, 2010. First Solar is a leading manufacturer of PV solar panels and provider of solar solutions. The acquisition brings a number of benefits to the AV Solar Ranch One project, including First Solar’s advanced thin film technology and its engineering, procurement, and construction expertise.
When fully operational, the 230MW AV Solar Ranch One project will generate enough clean solar energy to serve the needs of about 75,000 average homes per year, displacing approximately 140,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year—the equivalent of taking about 30,000 cars off the road.
Construction on AV Solar Ranch One is planned to begin in late 2010. Pacific Gas & Electric Company has contracted to purchase the project's output for 25 years. Learn more |
